Today six states were granted exemptions from No Child Left Behind to form school tailored solutions for sagging test scores. Educators complain under the current program schools are unfairly punished for not reaching testing goals.

Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of One Laptop per Child (OLPC), unveiled it’s next-generation, low-cost laptop prototype geared to poor students in emerging markets. The XO 2.0 has a touch-screen keyboard that, when turned on its side, doubles as a second display. This feature means more than one student may use the computer at the same time.

Home Depot Inc. reported a first quarter net income drop 66%. Analysts blame increasing food and gas prices, as well as the housing market downturn, for the home improvement giant’s downturn. Earlier this month Home Depot announced they would close 15 stores deemed under performing. They also canceled plans to open 50 new stores.
